Southeast: Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Northwest Indian College

Originally hailing from southwest Kansas, Mickki Garrity recently relocated from Denver, CO to the Pacific Northwest. A committed community builder and serial entrepreneur, Mickki’s work has included founding and leading Mile High Business Alliance, a membership-based non-profit which hosted Colorado’s Buy Local programs from 2007 to 2015. Other management experience includes Director of Operations for Holo, Ltd, Operations Manager for the Geek Gene, Program Manager at the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation, and Recruitment Director for the Girl Scouts of Colorado. Mickki is now pursuing her first bachelor’s degree in Native Environmental Science at Northwest Indian College and hopes to support the efforts of Indigenous communities in climate change mitigation and ecological restoration. Mickki is Neshnabe / Bodewadmi and enrolled in the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. A Cobell Scholar, S-STEM Scholar, AMP Scholar, and Doris Duke Conservation Scholar, Mickki also writes about her educational experience as a non-traditional Indigenous student for the Tribal College Journal. In her spare time, Mickki enjoys camping, hiking, and sharing good food with friends.
