Pacific Northwest Native American Workshop on Bats

Native American Fish and Wildlife Society, Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, and Oregon State University
Through a partnership between National Native American Fish and Wildlife Society, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service and Oregon State University, we are planning the first Pacific Northwest Native American Workshop on Bats to be held at Yakama’s Legends Casino in Toppenish, Washington, on 8-9 August 2023. Registration for this workshop will be open to tribal members and representatives of tribal nations from the Pacific Northwest and adjacent areas, who are interested in bat research and bat-related topics.
This two-day, one-night, workshop will address a variety of topics related to awareness and importance of bats on tribal lands, as well as threats (e.g., WNS), field techniques, data gaps, monitoring programs, and more. Guest speakers will include experts on bats from local and national agencies, as well as universities and NGOs. This workshop is limited to tribal members and representatives of tribal nations and there is no cost for registration. Because is a free event, the workshop will be capped at 30 individuals that can attend. Therefore, attendance will be based on those individuals who are registered first. All attendees are responsible for their own travel, lodging and related costs. To handle bats at this workshop, you must have your Rabies vaccine, NO EXCEPTIONS. You are welcome to attend the workshop and the lecture portion of this event but will be unable to handle bats without proof of rabies vaccination.
