National Coastal Resilience Fund Resources

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) National Coastal Resilience Fund (NCRF) supports nature-based solutions that enhance the resilience of coastal communities and habitats to address increasing threats from storms, sea and lake level changes, flooding, erosion and other coastal hazards.

Program eligibility

Eligible applicants include non-profit 501(c) organizations, state and territorial government agencies, local governments, municipal governments, Tribal governments and organizations, educational institutions, or commercial (for-profit) organizations.

Project Area

Projects must be located within the coastal areas of U.S. coastal states, including the Great Lakes states, and U.S. territories and tribal lands. For the purpose of this funding opportunity, the eligible project area is defined as all coastal Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) 8 watersheds that drain to the sea and any adjacent HUC 8 watersheds that are particularly low-lying or tidally influenced (“coastal areas”). Program Priorities

Award decisions will be made based on regional circumstances and needs, but all proposals must address the following priorities:

  • Nature-Based Solutions
  • Community Resilience Benefit
  • Fish and Wildlife Benefit

Additional priorities consideration is given to projects that address the disproportionate risks faced by Indigenous communities, projects that are community-led or incorporate direct community outreach and engagement, and projects that incorporate innovative, sustainable, or transferrable approaches.

Applicants should apply under ONE category that best describes the purpose and activities that will be implemented:

  1. Community Capacity Building and Planning
  2. Site Assessment and Preliminary Design
  3. Final Design and Permitting
  4. Restoration Implementation

NAFWS ACTION

The Native American Fish & Wildlife Society is partnering with Throwe Environmental and the American Society of Adaptation Professionals (ASAP) to serve as field liaisons to provide technical assistance for the National Coastal Resilience Fund. Technical assistance will include educating Tribes on NCRF, developing an NCRF toolkit, hosting webinars for applicants, and proposal review.
