About the event

Wildlife and Wind Energy: Challenges and Solutions for Sustainable Renewable Development

As wind energy continues to expand across the United States, it plays an increasingly important role in reducing emissions and supporting a cleaner energy future. At the same time, wind energy development can present challenges for wildlife, particularly for raptors, migratory bats, and other sensitive species.

Join us for an overview of the complex relationship between wind energy and wildlife conservation. This webinar will explore the risks associated with wind energy development, the species most affected, and practical approaches for reducing impacts through the mitigation hierarchy—avoiding, minimizing, and offsetting impacts where possible.

Participants will also learn about current research being conducted by the Renewable Energy Wildlife Institute (REWI) to better understand wildlife interactions with renewable energy and improve conservation outcomes. The webinar will conclude with an introduction to REWI's efforts to update its Wind-Wildlife Research Program and how Tribes, communities, and other stakeholders can help shape future research priorities.
