Tribal Fish & Wildlife Funding

Image (2).jpeg
  • Tribes do not have federal base funding and are often excluded from existing funding sources, such as Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration (PR) and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration (DJ) Acts. Tribes also face additional boundaries to accessing  important funding opportunities because of their struggle to secure the required match due to limited tax revenue and financial resources.

  • Secured annual federal funding dedicated to supporting Tribal fish and wildlife management can be used to develop, carry out, or enhance wildlife conservation and restoration programs, threatened and endangered species recovery, wildlife conservation education and recreation, conservation law enforcement, and program staff.

  • NAFWS recognizes the importance of addressing the historical inequities, exclusion, and perpetual underfunding of Tribal wildlife management. NAFWS supports Tribal Fish and Wildlife Funding through the following actions:

    • Active members of the Alliance for America’s Fish and Wildlife and the Tribal Alliance

    • Act as clearinghouse for Tribal Letters of Support

    • Passed a resolution in support of dedicated federal funding to recover fish and wildlife

    • Participate in and host Tribal DC Fly-ins to advocate and educate for Tribal Fish and wildlife funding

So many great ideas for thinking outside the box. Many ideas I had considered or have already implemented, but other ideas were novel and great food for thought!
