Marine Invasive Species Management and Techniques Workshop

Native American Fish and Wildlife Society and the Shoalwater Bay Tribe

The Native American Fish and Wildlife Society, in partnership with the Shoalwater Bay Tribe will be hosting the in-person training. The training will be held at Shoalwater Bay Tribe Reservation on July 8-9, 2025. Participants will receive instruction on the fundamentals of invasive species management planning, including sampling techniques, data processing and early detection strategies for European green crab. The training will also cover appropriate European green crab disposal methods, guidance on grant applications and funding opportunities and management strategies for other regional invasive species such as scotch broom and eelgrass.
The course will include both classroom sessions and hands-on field components. Fieldwork will involve working on boats, in and around water and in variable weather conditions, participants should be prepared to get wet and work in potentially muddy or slippery environments.

For field work please bring:
· Quick-dry, long-sleeve shirts and long pants
· Closed-toe shoes or knee high waterproof boots suitable for wet conditions
· Sunglasses, sunhat, and sunscreen
· Refillable water bottle and snacks
· Rain gear or an extra set of dry clothes
· Waterproof bag or dry sack (recommended)

NAFWS members or Member Tribes: There will be no registration costs for NAFWS members or member Tribes.

NAFWS Non-member: If you are not a member or from a non-member Tribe, the cost of this course is $150.

This workshop will be capped at 15 participants.  

Please limit registration to two representatives per Tribe or Tribal Organization.
