The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) value developing partnerships with Tribal Nations and communities. On April 07, 2023, APHIS announced the availability of over $12 million in funds available for Tribal Nations, Tribal organizations, state agencies, research institutes, and universities to control and prevent chronic wasting disease (CWD) in farmed and wild cervids (e.g., deer, elk). All opportunities are open to Federally Recognized Native American Tribal governments, including a separate $500,000 funding opportunity for activities controlling or preventing CWD in wild cervids on Tribal lands. The Office of National Tribal Liaison and Wildlife Services is partnering together to provide tribes an opportunity to learn more about the funding opportunity and how to apply.
